Tutor and Assistant

Mesh works in one of two modes. In Tutor mode, Mesh leads and teaches you a subject one lesson at a time. In Assistant mode, you lead and Mesh helps with whatever you're working on.

Tutor mode: Mesh teaches

Mesh plans the subject as Topics and teaches their lessons on the Board, one idea at a time: a drawing, a question for you, then a check on how it went. A lesson is ticked when you say you've got it, new notes and quizzes join the Topic you're learning, and each Topic ends with a Practice quiz. On your own homework, Mesh gives one hint at a time. Mesh decides what comes next; you say when you're ready. Learning with Mesh walks through a lesson.

Assistant mode: you lead

Ask for anything: an answer, a drawing, a note, a quiz, or a look through your Library. Mesh does what you ask with the same Topics and lessons, but changes or ticks a lesson only when you ask, and nothing joins a Topic on its own.

Which one to pick

Tutor mode

To learn something properly.

  • “Teach me how the stock market works”
  • “I have a biology exam in two weeks. Get me ready.”
  • “Chapter 3 didn't stick. Teach it to me again.”

Assistant mode

To get something done.

  • “What's the difference between weather and climate?”
  • “Make a quiz from chapter 2”
  • “What do my slides say about the essay deadline?”

Switch modes

Every Workspace starts in Tutor mode and keeps its own mode. Switch with the mode button in Mesh's message box, a cap in Tutor mode and a hand in Assistant mode. The new mode starts with your next message, and the chat shows Switched to Assistant mode where it changed. On a Topic, Teach me and Continue switch to Tutor mode, and Stop switches back to Assistant mode.

Your Topics, lessons and everything Mesh made stay put either way. Back in Tutor mode, Mesh goes on from your first lesson not ticked.

Mesh can offer to switch

In Assistant mode, when you clearly want to learn a subject, Mesh may offer Tutor mode. In Tutor mode, when you'd rather not be led for now, Mesh may offer Assistant mode. The offer comes at most once per chat, as a card with Switch to Tutor or Switch to Assistant, and Not now. Only your tap switches the mode.
