Topics

A Topic is one point on your Map: one idea, one question, one piece of the work you want to hold together. Every Topic has its own page, its Hub, where you do the writing for that Topic and see everything filed under it.

What a Topic does

  • A home for your content. Anything you or Mesh make can be filed under a Topic, so nothing floats loose.
  • A shared position. Making a Topic Active tells the Workspace and Mesh: this is what we're working on right now.
  • A center to build from. Its Hub page keeps the core writing in one place, while the richer material — sources, pictures, Board work — stays connected around it.

Two markers, two meanings

Opening a Topic and working in one are different things, and the tree shows both at once.

Active Topic
The Topic you chose as the current working context. There is always exactly one, and new work files under it.
Selected Topic
The Hub you have open in the panel. Just looking at a Hub does not change what is Active.

Three things can move the Active Topic:

  • You. Tap Set active at the top of a Hub, or Set active on any Map row. The left marker and the Hub header turn green.
  • The app. Start real work somewhere else — editing another Hub, or adding to another Topic — and the Active Topic follows you there. A Stay in ... button appears each time, and the switch behind this lives on the Map.
  • Mesh. Say Let's work on Quadratics in the chat and it switches for you.

Open the Topic, then work in its Hub

Tap a Topic row and its Hub opens. Its header holds Map, the Topic title, Filed under this Topic, Set active when this is not the Active Topic, and Expand. The Map panel's question mark opens the Topics guide; return to the Map and it opens the Map guide instead. The Topic path sits beside the writing tools. Expand the Hub when you want more writing space; the same button becomes Shrink while it is large. The Map itself does not get a Hub; Hubs belong to Topics.

What is symmetry

A shape is symmetric when you can move it - flip it, spin it, slide it - and it lands exactly on itself. Each kind of move is a different kind of symmetry, covered in the subtopics below.

The key idea: symmetry is about the move, not the shape. Worked examples live in Chapter 3.pdf, pages 41-44.

Saved

A Topic's page inside the Map panel. Tap Set active and everything follows - the header, the marker, and the chip up in the panel chrome. The small route button shows the path here.

The Hub page works like a Note

Write and format as you would in a Note. Type @ to add a Reference, and use Edit under Filed under this Topic to check or uncheck related material. Or hand the writing to Mesh — Add a worked example to this Hub — and it edits the block you named instead of replacing your page. The Hub saves as you write and reports saved, updating, or error states. It belongs only to its Topic and does not also appear in Notes.
