Topic pages
A Topic is one entry in your topic outline: a place to work and keep related items. It can be a week of a syllabus, a whole subject, or a single idea — open one to switch between its Overview, Steps, and Material.
What a Topic does
- A home for your content. Anything you or Mesh make can be connected to a Topic, so nothing floats loose.
- A shared position. Making a Topic Active tells the Workspace and Mesh: this is what we're working on right now.
- A center to build from. Its Overview keeps the core writing in one place, while the richer material — sources, pictures, Board work — stays connected around it.
Two markers, two meanings
Opening a Topic and working in one are different things, and the tree shows both at once.
Topics
The green row is the Active Topic: Set active moves it to another row, tapping Active again clears it, and tapping the row itself opens the Topic. Beside each title, the time (2h) says when you last worked there, the count (5) says how much is connected, and a dashed marker means the Topic is named but untouched.
- Active Topic
- The Topic you and Mesh are working in right now. Working without one is always allowed.
- Selected Topic
- The Topic you have open in the panel. Just looking at a Topic does not change what is Active.
Three things can move the Active Topic:
- You. Tap Set active at the top of a Topic, or Set active on any topic row. The left marker and the Topic header turn green.
- The app. Start real work in another Topic and the Active Topic follows you; Stay in ... puts it back. The switch lives in Topic settings.
- Mesh. Say “Let's work on Quadratics” in the chat and it switches for you.

Tap a Topic row and its page opens across the panel — this one is live. Each topic has its own page.

- Tap the title to rename the Topic in place. Path opens where it sits — the outline, its parent topics, and its subtopics — each one tap away.
- Material lists everything connected here. Edit lets you tick items to Remove; Add items connects more. Removing a connection keeps the original item. Topic connections is the full story.
- Overview holds the Topic’s main writing. Steps is a checklist of what to work through. Material opens first; each Topic remembers your last tab. Switching tabs keeps your draft and your place.
The Overview works like a Note
Write and format as you would in a Note — type @ to add a Reference, or hand the writing to Mesh: “Add a worked example to this Topic”. It saves as you write, and it belongs only to its Topic — it does not appear in Notes. Use it for key ideas, rules, formulas, results, and links. Longer or reusable writing belongs in a separate Note connected in Material. Asking Mesh to make a note creates a Note; ask it to update the Overview when that is what you mean.
Steps: what to do next
Add a step and write freely, including multiple lines. Type @ to link a Note, source, Image, Video, Practice set, Topic, or Board flag. Drag the handle to reorder steps, and check each one off yourself. Continue takes you to the first unchecked step and opens its first reference when available. Your checkoffs save automatically.
Steps describe actions; Material says what belongs in this Topic. A reference in a step is only a link: it does not add the item to Material, copy it, or delete it when you remove the step. Mesh can build or revise your Steps when asked, while preserving your checkoffs. A Topic can be a day, a chapter, or any unit of work.
