Library

Library is where you put the material you want to work from: PDF, Markdown, and text files, text you write or paste in, and saved copies of web pages. It stays exactly as you added it — material to read, not to write in, which is what Notes are for. Mesh reads it too and uses it when answering you: finding a source, reading it, renaming it, and filing it are all things you can ask for instead of doing by hand.

Add through one doorway

Choose Add to open the Add to Library window. Stage any mix of items, set whether Mesh reads each one, then add the whole batch at once.

Files: Drop or browse for PDF, Markdown, or text files, several at a time, up to 30 MB each. Word and Excel files are not accepted directly — export them to PDF first.
Website link: Paste a full http or https address. The link saves right away and Library captures a dated copy of the page in the background. Pages behind a login or paywall cannot be captured — save those as a PDF, or paste the text in with Write text.
Write text: Write or paste any text and save it as a Markdown file. A title is optional.

Paste anywhere in the window and it sorts itself out: files land in Files, a lone URL becomes a Website link, and anything else goes to Write text.

Adding is yours to do: Mesh cannot put anything into Library. When you want what a public page says right now rather than a saved copy of it, ask Mesh to read it live instead.

Choose what Mesh can read

Every item sits in one of two states. You choose as you add it, and you can change your mind at any time: tap the check or the crossed-out eye at the end of a row, and its card names the state and offers the one action that flips it.

Mesh can read this: Mesh can read the item and use it when answering you. It uses Library storage.
Hidden from Mesh: The item is still yours: it stays in Library, still opens and previews, and still pins to the Board. Mesh can't read it while it's hidden, and it doesn't use Library storage.

Hide from Mesh and Let Mesh read this do the flipping, from that card or from the row menu, and the switch is yours alone: Mesh cannot hide a source or let itself read one. Hiding is not deleting — nothing leaves Library, and nothing about the item changes except whether Mesh can read it. Letting Mesh read a hidden item again needs room in Library storage, and Mesh prepares it from the start; Storage holds the meter.

A source Mesh can read is one you no longer have to open yourself: what does this say about refunds? is a question you can put to Mesh. What Mesh can do has the range.

Every row shows its kind and its state

Each row wears a compact kind icon — a document for PDF, MD for Markdown, T for Text, a globe for Web links — with the full name in its tooltip. Beside it sits one state:

Ready: Mesh can read this one and use it when answering you.
Hidden from Mesh: You've hidden it: the file still opens, and Mesh can't read it.
Preparing: Mesh is working on it.
Still preparing: Further along, and taking a while. Mesh checks about every minute and keeps trying until the file is ready or Try again appears.
Queued: Mesh prepares up to four files at once; this one starts as soon as a turn opens.
Waiting to retry: An attempt did not finish, and Mesh will try again on its own.
Failed: Mesh could not prepare this one. When another attempt can help, the row offers Try again right there.
Capturing this page: A saved web page whose dated copy Library is still making.
Capture failed: A saved web page that could not be captured. Retry capture sits in the row menu.

Whenever another attempt can help, Try again sits right on the row, in the row menu, and on the card Info opens.

Preview the saved copy

Select a row and what Library saved opens beside the list. Rename it from its title, add a comment behind the Comment bar, or manage the Topics it's in — downloading, Info, and deleting sit in the row menu. Deleting removes the file from the Workspace and can't be undone. Renaming and filing are also things you can just ask for — rename this to Refund policy, file it under Refunds. Mesh reads your comment but never writes one, and it never deletes a source. Each kind opens the way it should:

Markdown and text: Markdown renders formatted; a text file shows exactly as written. A very long file previews its first stretch and says so — Mesh still reads all of it.
PDF: The pages sit one under another, and the page number keeps up as you scroll. Previous PDF page and Next PDF page step through it, typing a number in the box between them jumps straight there, and PDF zoom holds zoom in, zoom out, and reset.
Web link: You read the dated copy Library captured, laid out like the page it came from. Link holds the address to copy, the date it was captured, and Refresh, which captures the page again and replaces the saved copy; Open website opens the live page in a new tab. When there is no copy to show, the notice says why and offers Retry capture.

Library remembers your place while this app session stays open. Reopen Markdown, text, or a saved web page and it returns to the same scroll position; reopen a PDF and it restores the page, zoom, and scroll position.

Pin sources to the Board

A Library source can also live as a pin on the Board, so you can read it beside your work instead of switching panels.

Pin to Board sits above the preview. A PDF asks which pages to place first, up to 25 pages per range.
Once placed, the header reads Pinned here on the current Board page, or Pinned when the copies sit elsewhere.
Either one opens the list of every copy, along with Pin another copy. A pinned row wears the same pin in front of its title.

Tip: Write what a source is for in its Comment bar — Mesh matches those words when it goes looking, so a comment is how you find a source again, not just a note to yourself.
